The Plains Parade was definitely a sight to see. The parade was put on by the Chamber of Commerce and had 34 registered entries this year that had the crowd entertained.

The parade had such a turnout that traffic was backed up for a mile from the parade on Railroad St. all the way down to the fair grounds.

Kids definitely did not leave empty handed with pockets full of candy worthy of any Halloween trick-or-treat and one group even handed out blow up balls to eager children. The parade started with the traditional Veterans leading the march as spectators politely bowed their heads and clapped their praise. Bringing up the rear of the parade were Plains high School cheerleaders who won the award for Best Youth Costume.

The rest of the parade was full of interesting characters ranging from Smoky the Bear who walked along side the DNRC, a motorized bathtub, two little girls dressed in flower costumes and plenty of animals.

Grant Bailey who won the award for adults Class 2 with his horse Pistol, named because “he was a son of a gun” and a man walking a llama to plenty of motorized vehicles.

Also among the winners were Jim Stokes for the nonmounted award representing Sterling Realty and HoneySuckle Natural Foods, Bill Beck, Gary McGraw and Larry Larson for their motorized vehicles, Glen Blayelck with Superior Septic won the commercial float class, the noncommericial prize went to the VFW auxiliary, Cassie Christenson won Best use float for pulling 8 kids in a trailer by a four-wheeler, best novelty float went to Terrie Woods for Blessings from Above, best costume for a mounted class went to Charlie Wagoner and Best mounted group went to the Tea Party group.
