The Plains Lady Trotters took home their first victory of the volleyball season Saturday when they faced off against Superior giving them a 1-2 record for the season so far.

Plains won 3-1 in their match in Superior, losing the first game 14-25 but regaining confidence to win the next three games 25-23, 25-23 and 25-22.

Despite head coach Jessica Cahala’s absence at the game, the girls stepped it up and showed confidence on the court and came out with their first conference win.

Junior Varsity coach Rose Wagoner stepped in as Varsity coach at Saturday’s match and said the girls played really hard.  They had a slow start early on in the match, but ultimately pulled it together to have a really strong finish.

“They played really well and overall they did a good job and they all put in a good effort,” said Wagoner.

The big star of Saturday’s game was Laurel Danhoff who led the team with seven stuffed blocks, a feat Cahala called amazing.  In general, Wagoner said the Trotters did a great job blocking and on finding the holes for hitting and tipping the ball into Superior’s court.

Lacey Hermiston also led the team in hitting.

“Sometimes we just get a little sloppy but they work really well with pulling themselves out of it,” said Wagoner.

Cahala has been spending practices tightening up the team and working on fine-tuning the details to avoid the sloppy mistakes in future games.

The Lady Trotters are set to play against Darby , Thursday September 17 and Florence Saturday, September 19, both non-conference games, however both teams are in the same division as Plains and the Lady Trotters will likely see these teams during the Divisional matches.

Cahala said the game against Florence will be tight, but the Trotters have been improving every practice and can come out with a win.

Plains Junior Varsity volleyball currently holds an 0-3 record, but Wagoner said the team has been doing fairly well for how young they are.  The JV team also faces off against Darby and Florence at the end of this week.
