Don't fault victims in the crimes

| September 23, 2009 12:00 AM

Dear Editor,

You’ve got to be kidding me, since when did the victims of crime become the ones to blame for the crime. Crime is the responsibility of the perpetrator, period. We as individuals have the duty to safeguard ourselves and our property, but when someone decides that they would benefit more from the fruits of our labor and steal from us, it is not our fault. Working hard, maybe accumulating a bit of cash, should not make us a target for those who see crime as a way to make a living. A young woman walking at night does not deserve to be raped and businesses or individuals do not deserve to be stolen form. We as citizens have a right to expect our police department to protect our property as well as our person. It isn’t an inconvenience or waste of taxpayer money to investigate property crimes.
