They are gooey, sweet and spicy, often served with a pat of butter warmed enough for the icing to melt and the butter to drip down the sides. Served with a cup of piping hot coffee, a cinnamon roll is the epitome of the perfect breakfast. “Almost every weekend during the 2009 Thompson Falls Market season, someone featured cinnamon rolls at their booth. Whomever ventured into baking these tasty delights were always met by enthusiastic shoppers who scramble to buy them up before they were gone,” shares Katrina Wright, market coordinator. “So we’ve decided to celebrate the end of a great season, the incoming of fall and this wonderful baked good at the final day of the 2009 market.”

In celebration of this down home baked good, the first Cinnamon Roll Challenge, a special event of the Thompson Falls Market will be hosted on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 9:00am-1:00pm on the west lot of the Falls Motel.

The market coordinators encourage residents of Sanders County to sign up to compete in the Cinnamon Roll Challenge. The entry fee is $5.00 per entry or $13.00 for a booth space and an entry. The contest is paying out prizes to the top five entries with $40 cash and ultimate bragging rights going to the cinnamon roll judged to be the perfect balance of sweet and spice, texture and presentation. “By Saturday afternoon, everyone will know who in Sanders County bakes the best cinnamon roll,” explains Wright.

Along with cinnamon rolls, attendees will enjoy locally baked scones, quick breads, squash, pumpkins, eggs, jewelry, pottery, dahlia bouquets, coffee and tea, jams and jellies and artwork. The market offers a large variety of locally baked, crafted or grown products for attendees to peruse. “I love coming the the market each week, it is so much fun,”shares Helen Jensen, a regular market visitor, “It’s great to hear friends and neighbors laughing, catching up, sharing ideas while soaking in the summer days.”
