Cari Chamberlain eyes the tennis ball as she readies her racket to send it back to her opponet's side of the court.

Superior tennis players were trading in their rackets for squeegees at the match last Thursday against Loyola. The girls’ busy weekend was delayed for about an hour as a mixture of light rain and snow fell from the sky. Players took to the court with a squeegee, rather than a racket, as they tried to push the water from the tennis court, doing their best effort to make the conditions playable.

“We want to thank you for coming and trying out our new wading pool,” Coach Rick Barreth joked as he welcomed Loyola players.

Players headed out on the court to warm-up at about 4:45 p.m. and matches started at around 5 p.m. with the idea that the play would continue “as long as the weather holds out.” Needless to say, the weather didn’t hold out very long.

The weather might have slowed down the Superior girls on Thursday, but they went on to dominate on Friday and Saturday. They beat Valley Christian 6-1 on Friday at Valley and then played again at home on Saturday where they beat Eureka 7-0.

On Saturday, Cari Chamberlain defeated Karina Hofstee 6-2 and 6-4. And on Friday, Chamberlain defeated Hollyn Wittmier 6-1 and 6-3. Kiana Cox defeated Angela Bailey 6-1, 6-1 and lost one match 3-6. Cox also defeated Sarah Larson on Saturday 6-3 and 6-2. Michele Reinelt defeated Veda Hension 6-1 and 6-3 on Saturday and defeated Adrienne Newton 6-2 and 6-0 on Friday. Playing on Saturday, Chanel Elliot defeated Marissa Jones-Flaget 6-2 and 6-2. Jodie Satterlee defeated Hillary Stevens with an overall combined score of 10-5 (4-6, 6-3) on Friday.

In doubles, Kaylee Crabb and Sarah Wuebkes won both on Friday and Saturday, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3. Katie Goodpasture and partner Myranda Kuhl defeated opponents both days wining 6-2 and 6-0 on Friday, and 6-1, 6-1 on Saturday. Hillary Stevens and Kaitlin Coleman defeated their opponents on Friday in both matches 6-0.  Chanel Eliot and Alychia Scofield defeated opponents in both matches 6-0 also.

The girls had a weekend packed full of games this last weekend, but things will slow down this weekend. They play Darby at Superior on Saturday at 10 a.m. and then play Mission on Tuesday, April 20, also in Superior at 4 p.m.
