Golf is supposed to be a spring sport, but it felt and looked more like a winter sport last week. Snow delayed the Loyola Invitational on Friday for two and a half hours. On Thursday, blistering winds made it a cold day to be out on the greens hitting golf balls around, but the St. Regis golfers weren’t complaining.

“Everybody finished out the tournament,” said Coach Dan Park.  “They didn’t complain. They went out and played through the rain, snow and wind and didn’t complain.”

Park said that he was proud of them for sticking it out and glad that the golfers stayed focused and went out to do what they were there to do. He said that Thursday was “pretty miserable” weather to be out playing golf in, but that everyone on the team did well.

Park said he had two golfers qualify for state, one girl and one boy. Zane Worrall qualified both days ending Thursday with a score of 95 and Friday with a score of 85 for a combined total of 180 overall. Jocelyn Dockter scored a 100 on Thursday qualifying for state.

In overall team rankings for Thursday, the boys placed eighth with 888 and they also placed eighth on Friday with 434. Thomas Spencer finished out with a 126 on Thursday, Shad Hotchkiss ended the day with 118, Josh Slavin scored 118 and Tim Cranley was just three strokes away from qualifying for state with 103. Shelby Berg scored 133 for the day.

On Friday, Cranley managed to end the day with 125, ending the weekend with a combined score of 228. Hotchkiss ended the weekend with a combined score of 237, ending Friday with 119. Slavin ended Friday with a score of 125, ending the tournament with a combined score of 243.

Dockter ended the two-day tournament with a combined score of 234, while teammate Shelby Berg finished with a combined total of 290.
