Irish event planned to raise hospital funds

| April 21, 2010 1:19 PM

The Mineral County Medical Foundation has enlisted the assistance of a leprechaun in the promotion of their "Luck of the Irish" dinner, raffle and silent auction to be held at the St. Regis Community Center on April 24th at 5:30 p.m. The event is dedicated to raising funds for the Mineral Community Hospital. The highlight of the Irish night is a performance by "Singing Sons of Beaches," a popular Montana singing group known for their light humor and good music.

The leprechaun and members of the foundation can be seen selling dinner and raffle tickets at locations throughout the county. Just last week, they were seen at Castles, River's Edge and the Oasis.

It would seem that the Irish holiday isn't over yet and that the leprechaun has magically transformed the residents of the county into citizens of Ireland, as they are all claiming to be Irish. Elly Hollenback asked if she kissed the leprechaun, "Would he turn into a handsome prince?" "No Elly, you have the wrong fable," was the reply. One senior was seen dancing and singing, "When Irish eyes are smilin' the streets of Superior." Another kind lady, speaking with an Irish brogue, asked "Will there be a rainbow at the event?' Yes Patricia, there will be rainbows outside and inside the event.

The foundation asks that when you meet the leprechaun that you greet him with a hearty Irish welcome, especially since he is the keeper of the $500.00 to be raffled off at the dinner. He is also the protector of the silent auction items.

Maggie Dahl, the foundation's chairperson, wants to thank all the residents of Mineral County for the support they give their hospital and clinics. Dinner and raffle tickets can be purchased by calling 649-2977 or 822-0027. And remember, you don't have to be present to win the "Pot of Gold."
