Superior girls win at TFalls

The Superior girls track team had their first win of the season last week at Thompson Falls on Thursday. The girls took first place overall with 92 points, ranking ahead of ten other teams.

Kaitlynn Koke and Shelby Cooper helped propel the team to the front of the line. Cooper took home a first place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.87 seconds. Eureka runner Jen Miller, who took second place, nearly overtook Cooper's victory coming in with a time of 28.91.

Koke also took a victory in the javelin throw, winning by a mere two feet with a distance of 107 feet. Also bringing home a first place win for the team was the 400 meter relay team which consisted of Kinzie Cooper, Nicole Stroot, Kaitlynn Koke and Ashley Blaylock finished with 54.49 seconds. Last Saturday, the team took second place with a faster time of 54.47. The girls' 1,600 meter relay team came in third place with a time of 4:44.7.

Shelby Cooper also had showings in other events including a sixth place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.16 seconds. At the triple jump, Cooper landed in third place with a distance of 31 feet, 9 inches. Teammate Kelsey Stenberg placed fourth in the triple jump behind Cooper with a distance of 31 feet, 7 inches.

In the 800 meter race, Kinzie Cooper fell into a sixth place win with a time of 2:54.81. She also took a second place finish in the pole vault with a height of seven feet. Stroot had a second place finish in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 11 inches. She also took a fourth place win in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.25 to add more points to Superior's overall totals.

At the shot put, Jessica Taylor excelled and claimed a third place win with a distance of 28 feet, 2 ½ inches. With a jump of four feet, six inches, Cox also took home a third place win.

At Thompson Falls, the boys took an eighth place finish overall with 23 points. In the 100 meter dash, Matt Campbell secured a fifth place finish with a time of 12.08 just barely avoiding sixth place. In the 400, Bajin Smith took fourth place with a time of 57.74.The Superior boys took home a third place win in the 1,600 relay with a time of, 3:50.74. In the javelin throw, Eric Steinbach took sixth place with a distance of 139 feet, 10 inches. At the Bigfork Invitational on Saturday, the boys took home a fourteenth place finish overall. Smith, however, took second in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:07.00. He also claimed fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet. The boys 400 relay team took sixth with a time of 47.38. The 1,600 relay team also came is sixth with a time of 3:50.57. At the pole vault, Chris Erickson took a second place win with a height of 11 feet.

At Bigfork, the Superior girls took a sixth place win overall with 73 points. Shelby Cooper took fourth in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Stroot took fourth in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. She also took third in the long jump. The 400 relay team took second. Kinzie Cooper took sixth in the pole vault. Koke took second in the javelin throw.

The girls will be at Hot Springs on Thursday for the Hot Springs Invitational.
