Superior boys take second place finish at Hot Springs

The Superior boys took a second place finish at Hot Springs last Thursday with 81 points. The home team was close behind with 78, but the boys clenched the second place win. Plains won the meet with 153.

The boys' 400 and 1,600 meter relay teams led the way, each team winning a victory. Cristofer Eriksson, Garrett Stephens, Matt Campbell and Bajin Smith each handled a leg of the 400, winning with a time of 47.70, just three seconds ahead of second place team Noxon. In the 1,600, Smith and Campbell joined Garrett Stephens and R.J. Fredrick to net another victory, 3:58.36.

In the 100 meter dash, Stephens and Campbell filled out fifth and sixth places, 12.50 and 12.52. Stephens ran fourth in the 200 with a time of 28.18. Also running in the 400, Stephens claimed third place with a time of 55.84. Teammate Frederick took fifth with a time of 58.31.

Smith also ran in the 800 finishing second place with a time to beat of 2:12.06. Matt Hayes garnered a sixth place win in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 13:51.02. Also in the 300 hurdles, with a time of 48.94, Hayes finished third.

Superior contenders were also successful in the field events at Hot Springs. Hayes took second in the high jump, 5-8, tying with Plains Taylor Firestone, while Frederick took sixth. Smith came in second at the long jump with a distance of 18-4 and John Mueller finished sixth.

Ryan Bowers grabbed a third place victory in the shot put, throwing 37-9, while Ericksson took fifth with 37-5.5. Bowers took fifth in the javelin and Spud Crabb finished sixth. In the discus, Max Sarmento finished sixth, throwing 99-6.

The boys were also at Seeley on Saturday. They finished in the team total with six points overall. Smith took a fourth place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:08.12. The 1,600 meter relay team had a fifth place finish with 3:44.67. The boys will be at Wallace on Tuesday and Arlee on Thursday. They'll be at home on Saturday, May 1.
