For the second tournament in a row the Plains boys edged their cross-county rivals, Thompson Falls, in a golf meet. However, this win might have been more impressive since it's their first win of the year and they did it by handling the fast greens and the harsh winds that nearly blew them away at the Thompson Falls course on Saturday.

"They always beat us and especially at golf, so it's nice to beat them at their home course," says Senior Bryce Benson who shot a 95 for the tournament.
The star for the team proved to be Freshman Dallas Burgess who shot a 91 to lead the Horsemen. It's a big jump up from his previous scores and it came just in time for him to lead the team to one of their first tournament wins in the last couple years. Although, it's the first tournament that his scores reflected his talent Coach Terri Kendall says she's seen it in practice.
"Dallas wants to be out there all the time. If he didn't have school to go to and if he didn't have a mom at home that cooked good meals, he'd be out at the golf course all the time," said Kendall. "I was pleased with how the kids did and I was glad that they won the tournament."
Wade Bache hit a 93 for the Horsemen and Jeff Revier rounded out the team with a 98 giving the Horsemen a total score of 377, six less strokes than the second place Bluehawks.
Coach Kendall credits some of their success to playing the course the day before, which allowed adjusting their games to the fast greens of Thompson Falls.
"I think we played pretty well. The green's are rough there. It's like putting on a hard wood floors. They're small and fast. I thought we all played pretty well to pull off the win," says Benson.
The great play of the team has Coach Kendall looking forward to the Divisional Tournament as she estimates her team is in position to jockey for third or fourth place.
"I think we have a pretty good chance of making it to state as a team. I'm going sit those guys down and say ‘hey we have a chance of doing this, so let's do it,'" said Coach Kendall who says a lot will depend on Manhattan and Manhattan Christian who they haven't seen play yet this year.
This next weekend, the Plains boys will be traveling up to Deer Lodge on a course that closely resembles Plains with wide open areas. Also Coach Kendall says the course is usually windy and a lot of the results at the tournament will depend on the weather.
