Although the Noxon track and field team is struggling with three recent injuries, individual performances show promise in the team’s ability.

Adam Moore had the highlight performance on the Hot Springs track meet this past Thursday when he ran in the 800-meter race for the first time in his track and field career.  Not knowing what to expect, Moore kept his pace in second place for the majority of the race, passing competitor Bajin Smith from Superior for a photo finish first place medal.  Moore also had the best throw of his career thus far in the javelin with a throw of 165 feet taking second place behind Plains senior Trent Thompson. Cody Martens beat his personal best in the discus with a throw of 106 feet and freshman Johnny Carter had his personal best in the discus with a throw of 97.6.

Brent Wilson took second place behind Hot Springs Reiley Winebrenner in the 110 hurdles. Julian Kock-Watson took third in the long jump with a jump of 17-7.

The boys and girls team both took fifth place at the meet on Thursday.  Karlynn Therrian took home second in the 800-meter race and third in the discus with a throw of 88-11.  Shay Lloyd took second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:32.  Shelby Clark had a strong meet taking fifth place in the 400 meter run and fourth place in both the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Casey Chenoweth took fifth in the shot put and Jordan Wilkinson took sixth.

Head Coach Kelly Moore said Saturday’s meet in Libby was a strange-weather meet as competitors battled against snow, rain, sleet and wind throughout the day.

“We’re doing pretty good, we have a young team and only one senior and the rest are underclassmen, but I think we will have a few qualify for state,” said Moore.

Adam Moore had his second photo finish of the weekend, passing second place runner Jordan Cross from Polson in the 400 meter run with a time of 54.99.

Moore also placed third in the 300 hurdles with a personal best of 43.18 and fourth in the javelin with a throw of 150-6.

Derek Jensen took second in the shot put, beating his personal best with a throw of 45-5 and also beat his best throw in javelin with 148-9.

On the girls side, Clark took fourth in the 400 meter run with 1:10.54 and fourth in the 100 hurdles with 18.47 and fifth in the 300 hurdles with 55.62.

Therrian took sixth in the discus with a throw of 90-2 and Wilkinson took sixth in the shot put with 27-8.25.

Noxon heads to Eureka this coming weekend.

“We’ll see the same teams we’ve been seeing and I can’t compete with these big schools, so we go with individuals and get them to place and improve with P.R.’s. They have a good attitude and work hard and put in their best effort and that’s what I ask for,” said Moore citing the four by four relay at the Libby meet as an example of their effort.  “It’s the last event of the day. They are a little tired and I ask them to just give me an effort and they ended up running their best time of the year at four minutes flat.”
