Superior girls outrun competition at Hot Springs

Superior girls take first place at Hot Springs for second win of season

The Superior girls' track team dominated Hot Springs last Thursday. Ashley Blaylock and Kinzie Cooper were on fire in their events. Blaylock controlled the track in the 200 and 400 meter dashes, while Cooper breezed through the 800 and 1,600 meter dashes. The Superior girls also were dominant in the 400 and 1,600 relays. The girls took the crown with a huge point total of 179, while second place team Plains only managed 89.

In the 200, Blaylock took the race with a time of 30.47. She turned around after that to take the 400 also with a time of 67.89. Cooper ran the 800 with a time of 2:53.19 and took the 1,600 with a time of 6:05.26.

Blaylock also gave a performance in a leg of the 400 meter relay along with fellow Bobcats Kaitlynn Koke, Shelby Cooper and Nicole Stroot. The girls took first with a time of 54.96. In the 1,600 meter relay, Kinzie Cooper joined Blaylock, Koke and sister Shelby to add another win with a time of 4:49.21

Shelby Cooper also ran in the 200, finishing second with a time of 30.85. Rhandy Cox and Jessica Riley also were running and they finished fifth and sixth. Cooper also took a second place in the 100 meter dash, 14.10, while Kaitlynn Koke finished fourth, 14.49, and Riley took fifth, 15.09.

Stroot grabbed second place in the 100 meter hurdles with 18.61 and teammates Kelsey Stenberg and Rhandy Cox filled out fifth and sixth places. Stroot ran 53.30 in the 300 hurdles for another second place win. Cox grabbed third with 55.88 seconds. Stenberg also finished fifth in the 300 hurdles, 57.00.

The Superior girls also grabbed first place wins in the field events. At the shot put, Jessica Taylor took first with a distance of 28-9. Cox was number one at the high jump with a feat of 4-6. Kinzie Cooper also took third in the event with 4-4, while Taylor took fifth, 4-2. First in the long jump was Stroot with a distance of 15-4 1/2. Koke managed second place in the javelin throw, 109-3. Shelby Cooper also took a second place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 31-2, while sister Kinzie took sixth with 28-2. Stenberg finished fifth, 28-5.

At Seeley on Saturday, the girls claimed twelfth overall in team standings. Shelby Cooper took a fifth place win in the 100 meter dash. Blaylock took sixth in the 400 meter dash. Stroot also fell into a sixth place finish in the 100 hurdles. The 400 relay team took third, 53.18. Koke grabbed a fourth place win in the javelin with a distance of 104-10. In the long jump, Stroot took sixth with 15-2. Stenberg was also in sixth place finishing out the triple jump.
