Tournament preview

This weekend basketball season will officially kick off as all four Sanders County teams, Plains, Thompson Falls, Noxon and Hot Springs will meet in the county basketball tournament.

The junior varsity portion of the tournament will begin on Thursday, Dec 9 in Noxon.

The first game, between Thompson Falls and Hot Springs boys, will take place at 3, followed by the girls match-up at 4:30. At 6, Plains and Noxon’s boys will square off followed by the girls at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, the varsity portion of the tournament will begin at the Plains High School gym.

First up, Hot Springs boys will face Thompson Falls at 3 before the girls face-off at 4:30. At 6, the Plains boys team will host Noxon, followed by the girls match-up at 7:30 p.m.

JV action will resume on Saturday in Plains, as the girls consolation game will see the loser of game two take on the loser of game four. At 10:30, the loser of game one will play the loser of game three in the boys consolation game. The girls championship game will be at 12, featuring the winner of game two versus the winner and game four, and the boys championship at 1:30 will pit the winners of games one and three against each other.

After the completion of the JV tournament the varsity teams will resume play. The girls consolation game will be at 3 as the loser of games two and four play, and the boys consolation game follows at 4:30 between the loser of game one and the loser of game three. At 6, the girls championship game will be between the winner of game two versus the winner of game four, and finally in the boys championship game the winner’s of game one and three will tip off at 7:30 p.m.

There will be a short trophy presentation following each of the championship games, as a break to present the Community Service Award after the girls’ championship game.

Also, the JV game times on Saturday are approximate, as the first game will begin at nine, but the subsequent ones will be started ahead of schedule if possible in order to preserve the scheduling times of the later varsity games.

The cost of admission will be $6 for adults and $4 for students. Individual school season passes will not be accepted for the pre-season tournament.  All proceeds will be shared equally between the four schools.
