Please be aware that a mail scam is occurring in the U.S. and some residents in Mineral County have been targeted! A similar scam has been used in the past.

The current scam is using a valid appearing cashier’s check, issued by Premier Credit Union, in the amount of $3,980.00. Do not attempt to cash the check. The credit union is a valid financial institution and though the check looks real and valid, it is not.

The letter that accompanies the check is from a company in the United Kingdom and the envelope shows the letter is mailed from Canada, with no return address.

If you receive the scam letter and check, do not call the number requested in the letter and do not cash the check. Since authorities are already aware of the scam, there is no need to contact the Sheriff’s Office, however, destroy the materials and let your friends, neighbors and family know about the scam.

If you live in Mineral County and ever receive any material in the mail that you believe to be a scam and are unsure, please feel free to contact the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, 310 River Street, Superior, MT, (406) 822-3555.
