After an extremely tough weekend, the Ladyhawks needed to restore their confidence and their pride. They lost first to Charlo 24-46 and then to Loyola Sacred Heart 11-74. Coach Jason Reimer realized that the two-hour long practice on Monday was going to be very important to his shaken team.

“From 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. are the two most important hours of our basketball season,” says Reimer.

That morning he left little notes on each of his players’ lockers written in the form of a note from Survivor. They said “outwork, outlast, out tough, team tribal council at 3:25 at center court. Don’t be late.”

On the popular television show each Survivor carries a torch that is extinguished when they are voted off the show and now Reimer is hoping that he can brighten the flickering flame of his team and give them back the confidence they had in their first week of basketball.

“We need to get our confidence back and we need to get our intensity back,” says Reimer who will also show them a clip from Remember the Titans. “I’m gonna let them know how good they are and how good they can be. We’re going to have the most intense practice of the year.”

It was in the second quarter against Charlo where, according to Reimer, the bottom fell out of the weekend. Charlo hit four three-pointers in the second quarter and then cruised to victory against the Ladyhawks.

Now Reimer says the Ladyhawks will once again return to the uptempo game that the team abandoned several weeks ago because of a high amount of turnovers.

“I’ll take 30 turnovers to get the team back where they had that fire and that intensity,” says Reimer.

For Reimer and the Ladyhawks Monday was even more important, since on Tuesday they had to immediately turn around and play against Plains in the biggest rivalry of the year.

“I’m looking forward and not looking back,” says Reimer.
