Despite finishing last week on a losing note, by falling to a highly-touted Eureka team on Saturday, the Lady Hawks still managed to beat Troy on Friday to finish a three-game conference winning streak and put themselves in a situation where they can control their own destiny to grab ahold of the conference third seed.

“I like where we’re at,” says Head Coach Jason Reimer. “Eureka was a little bit dissapointing, but not in the girls. The girls are working hard…

We control our own destiny to get the third seed. That is a great place for us. We would play Troy in the first game(of the District Tournament) and then Eureka.”

It was Senior Karli Cavill who had her best game of the year to spur on the Lady Hawks to take down the Lady Trojans by a score of 47-22. Cavill chipped in 22 points going 11-16 from the floor and finished with 6 steals and 4 rebounds, while Kyla Molzhan had 10 points.

Against Eureka on Saturday, the team never pushed the game into a fast-paced affair and ended up losing 35-50. Molzhan had 14 points, while Cavill had 10 points.

Reimer says he got a little gun shy with the full-court and half-court pressure in the game and says in hindsight that is the only way they can beat Eureka.

“It’s definitely what we got to do. We did not execute at Eureka like we should,” says Reimer.

The team is still finding success with the run and gun game plan that they switched to before their winning streak and the progress of their underclassmen is also giving them a newfound size and strength.

Allison Vaught along with Molzhan have found their range from the outside giving the team a three-point threat and Hope Reid and Kelsey Fitchett are both coming into the game giving the team much needed height and rebounding.

“We’re just looking for size. We’re so small,” says Reimer whose tallest starter is Hannah Peters who is listed at 5’7”.

This weekend will mark a brutal part of the schedule for Thompson Falls as they travel to Colombia Falls to face a team that already handled a Loyola team that had beaten the Lady Hawks earlier this year by nearly 60 points. Then they play at home on Saturday against a Bigfork team who is number one in the conference. However, the Lady Hawks were very competitive against the team when they played early in January at Bigfork.
