The Trotters went home with a win Saturday against Darby after being defeated by Hot Springs on Friday night.

Plains forced Hot Springs to turnover the ball 18 times on Friday night and played tough defense, but it wasn’t enough to close a large scoring gap and Plains lost 55 to 28. The Trotters couldn’t get the ball in the basket on Friday night and only shot 22 percent from the field. The girls were still positive after their loss, however, as they started the first quarter winning four to nothing, which Head Coach Walt Hermiston said was the first time they’ve ever been ahead of Hot Springs in four years.

“We defended them fairly good considering, but we still have a hard time swallowing them down because they (Hot Springs) are physical and shoot the ball well, but we played well and hard and got quite a few shots off,” said Hermiston adding that the girls were able to break through Hot Springs solid half court defense in order to create shot opportunities, but the Trotters couldn’t sink enough of their shots.

Despite their loss on Friday night, the Trotters kept their confidence up and went on to beat Darby on Saturday, 42 to 34.

“It was one of the best games we played all year, and we had a real balance of scoring, defensive wise we played one of our best games of the year,” said Hermiston.

Hermiston said the win on Saturday was a team effort, especially with bench players Laurel Danhof and Alexis Kunzer contributing to the win after some of the starters got into foul trouble. Kunzer had nine points, Lacey Hermiston scored ten points and three other girls all had six points a piece. Hermiston was also pleased with the girls’ ball distribution and passing Saturday, seeing the open players and working together on defense.

The Trotters are set to take on Troy on Friday night.

“I’m hoping we play well, we would never have won if they weren’t still working hard and believing they could do it, but these girls refuse to quit,” said Hermiston.
