The Superior Bobcat Wrestlers headed up to the Ted Kato Memorial Tournament in Thompson Falls on Saturday. Coach Charlie Crabb said that the meet went well overall.

“Overall it was a good outing. We lost some matches we could have won and wrestled well in some matches that had been blown out earlier this year,” Crabb said.

At 98 pounds, freshman River Sides took home a second place finish. Sides won two of his three matches. He won 15-3 against Kale Kelly and pinned Sentinel opponent Sam Heffner. Senior Garrett Stephens also managed a second place finish at 135 pounds. He pinned his first opponent Logan Brown, from Eureka and then beat Thompson Falls wrestler Tanner Gascon. Stephens lost his third match against Florence wrestler Cody Lund.

Mason Chatterley finished fourth, wrestling at 125 pounds. He won three out of five matches. He won all three by pins against opponents from Noxon and Big Sky. He lost two of his matches by pin to opponents from Kalispell and Arlee.

Tyler Wharry won two of his four matches. He pinned opponent Bodee Floyd from Eureka and won 12-6 against Isaiah Spray from Noxon. Wharry wrestled at 140 pounds and lost by pin to opponents from Mission/Charlo and Plains.

At 189 pounds, MacKenzie Crabb lost both of his matches, one by pin the other 5-8. Last Tuesday, January 19, Crabb won one match, pinning a wrestler from Drummond, Ryan Darter. Stephens also won one match on Tuesday against Drummond as well, winning 7-5 against Barrett Stenghill. Chatterley won one match against Florence wrestler Logan Beskoon, pinning him to the mat.

Crabb said that at the Kato meet they noticed some areas that they need to improve upon over the next couple of weeks as Divisionals are scheduled for Saturday, February 6 in Deer Lodge. He said they need to be focusing in on wrestling at their best.

“We have two weeks until divisionals, so now it’s just cleaning up mistakes,” he said, “and trying to be wrestling our best for the next three weeks.”

Before Divisionals, the Bobcat wrestlers will face off against Arlee in Thompson Falls this Thursday and then on Saturday they will head up to Darby for the Darby Invitational.
