Brightly colored flowers might not be growing outside, but inside Jackie’s Flowers and Gifts, the colors of spring are in full bloom. new business, located on Mullan Road, next to Wells Fargo in Superior, opened officially back on Wednesday, January 20. However, Jackie Callison said she was selling stuff before the doors officially opened.

“I was tentatively going to open up on Wednesday, but I had people coming in here. We had all the blinds shut on Monday and Tuesday, but people were walking in here and I was already doing sales before I had even opened,” she said.

Callison, who also owns the Railroad Expresso and Knitting Depot in Alberton, said that she had known that the precious flower shop that had been located in the old school building had closed before Christmas and knew that there was a need.

“I heard there was a need and I was just started looking around to see where I could put something. This place was available and I had all the equipment,” she said. Railroad “I added flowers two to three years ago up in Alberton, so I had the coolers. They were just sitting out in my husband’s garage.”

Although one might think that mid-winter is no time to open a flower shop, Callison disagrees. For one thing, Valentine’s Day is in February, but beyond that it’s always nice to send someone a flower that might be in need of a pick-me-up. Callison said that she always loved working with flowers and designing her own arrangements with them.

“This is my niche. I love flowers. I like to design my own arrangements. That’s one of my biggest things. When you have a place like, Teleflora, sometimes you have to order exactly what they show, which is totally fine, but I like to have somebody tell me what they want, what colors they want and I just go for it,” she said.

Callison said that she’s sold something every day that she has been in business since she first opened. She said that the response from the public has been “really cool.” She said that while there has been a lot to do, she put the place together in about two weeks that it has been going really well and she’s appreciated the help from her mom Bonnie, husband Will and Lori Stetzel, who used to own a flower shop a few years ago before she sold it.

“I’m gearing up for Valentine’s Day right now,” she said. “I’m getting all my flowers ordered, but I feel like I’m pretty much set. I’m getting ready to put some permanent signage up and flyers to let people know what I have to offer. But it’s been really nice so far.”

Aside from flowers, Callison also carries a variety of gift items that are arranged on shelves throughout the store. She said she is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. She also said that she will deliver up to the county line. Individuals are welcome to come in and pick out flowers and can also call the store at 822-ROSE. Callison has a selection of flowers on hand, but said that she can order whatever an individual would like.

“A few days after we got it put together, my mom and I were here and we looked at each other and smiled and went, ‘Wow. It’s looking really good in here.’”

Callison said that she has no plans right now to expand as she is satisfied with the space that she has for the moment.

“It’s been absolutely fun,” she added.
