Hot Springs Elementary PTO eyes improvements

| July 14, 2010 12:41 PM

The HSEPTO (Hot Springs Elementary Parent Teacher Organization) has taken on the project of improving both the safety and effectiveness of the Elementary parking lot.

The HSEPTO (Hot Springs Elementary Parent Teacher Organization) has taken on the project of improving both the safety and effectiveness of the Elementary parking lot. Currently, parents picking up children double park in the middle of the parking lot, making it congested and unsafe. We plan on pouring a new sidewalk along the existing chain link fence. This will create a single lane drop off/pick up area. The new configuration would allow students to enter cars safely along the new sidewalk, or continue on the sidewalk to exit the parking lot instead of walking amongst parked cars.

The playground walk way is currently a gravel path lined with logs. This is uneven and very hard to clear of snow and ice in the winter. A new sidewalk would be poured and a connecting path would join the parking lot and the playground. A gate will be installed in the chain link fence.

We are currently in search of funding for this project. The estimated cost for the project is $5,700. The school board has agreed to match PTO funds, up to half of the project total cost. The 2010 senior class has graciously donated the remainder of their account balance, but an additional $2,000 is needed to complete this project. Labor is being donated, so funding is needed for supplies and equipment only.

The PTO is a registered non-profit organization. Any and all donations can be tax deductible. Your support would be greatly appreciated to improve this parking lot and help keep our students safe. If you have any questions, please contact Lori Heidegger 741-2259, Tammy McAllister 741-2212, or Jen Christensen 741-2519. There will be photos of the existing parking lot congestion and new plans on display in the Hot Springs High School Office and at Hot Springs Valley Bank.

We will be having a bake sale Friday, July 16th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bucks Grocery. Please stop by.

Any donations can be sent to: Valley Bank of Hot Springs
