Thompson Falls Market preparing for Pet Fest

| July 22, 2010 2:37 PM

Thompson Falls, MT - Pets are welcome at the Thompson Falls Market, that's what the market manager wants the community to know. "We are a rare market, one that embraces pets and promotes that pets are welcome.

Throughout the United States, markets have banned pets claiming they are unsanitary or unsafe. As long as owners pick up after their four legged friends, we will be pet friendly. We have even designed a market celebrating our furry, feathered or finned friends," shares Katrina Campbell, the market manager.

Pet Fest, a special event of the Thompson Falls Market, is scheduled for July 24th, 2010 on the west lot of the Falls Motel during regular market hours of 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The special event features all things pet. Along with the normal market fare, vendors have been encouraged to get creative and will be offering a variety of pet related products from pet sweaters to cat nip toys, dog treats and even pet shaped cookies for humans to enjoy.

The market will even offer pets for sale that you don't have to feed or clean up after.

A new vendor to the event, Blue Eyed Wolf, will be showcasing their painted pet rocks.

The community is encouraged to sign up in advance for the Pet Parade. The line up starts at the Valley Bank parking lot with the route running along Maiden Lane, through the market site and ending at Ainsworth Field. Pets and their owners will be judged, and prizes awarded for these categories: most original or clever (kid category), most original or clever (adult category), biggest "Ahhhh" factor/cutest (kid category), smallest pet entry and biggest pet entry.

Registration forms can be downloaded from the market website www.ThompsonFallsMarket.com or picked up and dropped off at the Falls Motel between 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. daily. Registration deadline is Thursday, July 22nd.

Attendees will be amazed by the Huckleberry Hounds Agility Club demonstrations. The Thompson Falls Vet Clinic will present the winners of the Biggest Loser Competition they launched in April.

The week leading up to Pet Fest, the Thompson Falls Public Library

is working on a reading program about pets for kids. Musician, Nat Burgess, returns with a play list of animal related songs. "Pet Fest was developed to add another fun community element to the Thompson Falls Market. Pets are an important part of our lives so we decided to celebrate this. We hope the community will embrace this special market," shares Pet Fest chairperson Jackie Burgess.

The event will offer pet comfort stations where owners will find drinking water, biodegradable poop bags, and waste receptacles.

The community is encouraged to bring non-perishable pet food to the market.

Donations will be given to the Thompson River Animal Care Shelter (TRACS).

Pet Fest is proudly sponsored by Molly, Sweet Pea, and Jake the dogs of Whitepine Entertainment , Pansy the cat of Ameriprise Financial, Motley the motel cat of the Falls Motel, and www.DogPoopBags.com.
