Selection is based upon a combination of community service, scholastic merit and citizenship. Scholarship candidates participate in a formal interview.

Each candidate was candid, articulate and has developed a solid foundation for the future.

Scholarship committee member and Sanders County 4-H Council Treasurer Kathy McEldery commented, "I am always so impressed by the outstanding caliber of 4-H Scholarship applicants. Their achievements and accomplishments in 4-H and their personal lives are amazing."

These scholarships were awarded by the Sanders County 4-H Scholarship Endowment program, which is a reality because of funds earned through community support.

Interest earned from funds held with the Montana 4-H Foundation makes this annual scholarship program possible.

Each year these awards go to graduating seniors who have contributed to the 4-H program and given back to their communities. This is the 4-H Council's way of supporting them.

Since 1996, 4-H scholarships have gone to 33 Sanders County Seniors, for a total of $25,500. Extension Agent John Halpop reflected, "To our knowledge, one hundred percent of these youth have graduated and gone on to successful careers."
