The 'rule of law' in Sanders County

In the light of the Primary Election, it is good to have learned, at the April 28th JBS Sheriff's forum, that neither of the remaining candidates will take on battles with the federal government. When the United States enacts a law that is repugnant to the US Constitution and the Montana Constitution, both candidates promised to not interfere. Rather, they will defer to the Montana Attorney General or to the Governor.

The "rule of law" is safe in Sanders County; that makes me feel much more secure, knowing that we will not needlessly attract federal attention.

Similarly, when the IRS comes knocking at your door, it will not alarm the sheriff since the IRS has no law enforcement authority. Mere bureaucrats are not much of a threat to the peace of Sanders County, are they?

We can rest easily in our homes, knowing that no matter which candidate we elect in November, we can expect their full cooperation with federal agents. This will be especially true when Homeland Security is involved since that is a matter of national security. After all, is not our safety the most important thing in our lives?

True, it will be startling to say the least, when any of us find strangers in our homes, pawing through our possessions, only to learn they are federal agents just doing their job, which is so routine that no warrant is necessary. Were it not for the Patriot Act, which Rep. Rehberg voted for, the IV amendment would have prevented this essential protection of our safety. If, on the other hand, the intruder is a bona fide criminal, and not a federal agent, we can always call 911 and have the sheriff arrest him.
