The Superior Ranger Station would like to inform you of a prescribed burn that will be conducted up Second Cr. in Lozeau, Montana, March 15 and March 16, 2010.

The unit is located at Township 16, Range 25, Section 21 & 22. The burn will be at Second Creek and First Creek up to the power line. Today, March 15, 2010, the crews will be black lining about 10 acres around the perimeter of the unit. This will reduce the vegetation at the perimeter before they conduct the major portion of the burn. Then on March 16, 2010, if all parameters are met, the district will continue the prescribed burn by igniting the 300 acres using a Helicopter and Helitorch.

The Helicopter and torch will be located near the mouth of Second Creek in an open field. Please be careful when traveling in the area for the next few days. Slow down; as people and equipment may be present in the smoke. If you are planning to recreate in the area, it would be advised to wait until the end of the week. This burn is not being conducted near private property.

Area Fire Managers are expecting smoky conditions for the next few days into Wednesday evening. With the approaching cold front, the smoke should be blown out of the area Wednesday night.

If you have any questions, please contact the Superior Range District at 406-822-4233.
