Hot Springs is ready to take on the season, after having a successful season last year with three kids placing at the state meet.  Reiley Winebrenner and Devon White are two returning seniors this year, who both placed at the state meet.  Winebrenner placed in both the 400 and 300 hurdle races and White placed in the triple jump.

Head Coach Dusty Herbert said his main goal for this season is to keep on improving at each meet and peak at districts.  There are currently 18 kids signed up for track and field and Herbert is confident that they should be able to have kids fill most of the events as long as they can avoid injury throughout the season.

With two weeks of practice under their belt, the Hot Springs kids will be facing their first meet in Missoula, Wednesday, March 31 at the Alberton/Drummond Invitational.  Herbert said since Hot Springs is a much smaller school than many of the schools that participate in the meets, including other Class C schools such as Charlo, he doesn’t place a lot of pressure on getting high scores at the invites.

“The first meet we are trying to get some times so we will improve on those.  All the meets are practice until we get to districts,” said Herbert.

Although Hot Springs lost some strong seniors from last year, Herbert said they have a lot of new freshman and juniors, who should start picking up some places.

“We’re ready to get going,” said Herbert.
