Everetta Ellen Walls was born in Missoula on September 22, 1910. She passed away March 15, 2010, in Plains. She was the oldest child of Everett Walls and Clara Price Walls. The family lived for several years in a cabin in the Trout Creek area near Superior.

When Everetta was in elementary school, she lived with the Brown family in St. Regis. Mr. Brown was the school custodian and she often helped clean the school.

Once the family settled in Paradise, Reta attended the Paradise School. The high school in paradise closed after her junior year. There was no way to travel to Plains on a daily basis, so Reta rode the train to Thompson Falls and lived in the dormitory there while she finished high school. She graduated on May 29, 1929 and was the oldest living graduate of Thompson Falls High School at the time of her passing.

On April 5, 1930, Everetta married Arthur Proctor. He was a heavy equipment operator and they moved around Western Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon while he built highways. Their sons Bert and Bob joined them.

Paradise later became their permanent home and Reta became a very "crafty" lady. If you were to look up her name in a dictionary, you would find she was the original "reduced, reuse, recycle" person. She had a kiln on her front porch and taught ceramics as well as pouring and selling clay molds and selling her ceramics at various craft shows. She was also a gifted seamstress; she loved making ornaments, jewelry and household decorations. She took painting lessons and did lot of paintings for friends and family. Many newlyweds enjoyed the beautiful wedding cakes she baked and decorated. Even after her eyesight failed, she crocheted hundreds of pot holders. No visitor left without at least one pot holder.

Her family was a treasure to her and she was a great friend and neighbor. She always seemed to know when and where her talents and caring were needed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, her son Bert and daughter-in-law Nancy, her sister Mona and her brother Ed and Eugene.

She is survived by her son Bob (Rae) and granddaughters Barber (Jay) Brettman, Stacy (Tim) Lerum, Julie (Tim) Browne and Emily (Kurt) Jacobsen; grandsons David (Della), Bruce (Ulrike), Eric (Trish); 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; brother Frank (Celia), sisters-in laws Penny and Jarie; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her dear friends Sally, Beulah, Mary Lou, Joye and niece Marti.

Everetta live for nearly eight years at New Horizons Assisted Living in Plains and was so happy to have the companionship and love that was provided there.

Her long life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 22 at the United Methodist Church in Paradise. A reception will follow in the club house.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Clark Fork Valley Hospice, PO Box 768, Plains, 59859 or the Plains-Paradise Senior Citizens Center, PO Box 938, Plains, 59859.
