Noxon went up against 15 other schools at the Whitefish Invitational on Saturday and the girls JV team managed to take 9th place after facing Class A, B and C schools.

“It was a tough meet and if I can get kids to place, that’s awesome,” said Noxon Head Coach Kelly Moore.

Moore was pleased with the team’s performance as three of the boys placed on the Varsity level.  Derek Jensen took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 42-8. Banks Stocking, who is recovering from an injury, still managed to beat his personal best in the long jump.  Stocking took fifth in the long jump with a jump of 19-5 1/4.  Adam Moore took sixth place in both the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.06 and the javelin with a throw of 151-8.

Although the girls did not place on the Varsity level, Moore was proud of their performance as they ended up taking ninth place in JV.  Noxon is a young team, the majority of which are freshman and only one senior, the young athletes matched up competitively against the larger schools’ JV teams.

“There were some kids that were fast and it was good for our kids to see that kind of competition,” said Moore.

Although Noxon has to put up a fight at these larger meets, as far as the Class C conference goes, their athletes are ranked as some of the best in the state.  Athletic.net ranked Moore and Stocking in the top ten in the state for their events.

Noxon is set to host the county meet this Thursday and competes at the Seeley Swan Invite in Missoula on Saturday, May 6.
