It was a duo that shined for Hot Springs last week in its two track meets, although the duo changed slightly between the first and last track meet. Starting on Tuesday, seniors Reiley Winebrenner and Devon White were both invited to the Russ Pilcher Western Montana TOP 10 track meet and both placed in the meet featuring only the best of the best with no class differential.

White placed fifth in the triple jump and Winebrenner placed fourth in the 300 hurdles nearing his best time of the year at the meet. Winebrenner also was invited to the meet in the 100 hurdles.

On Saturday, it was Winebrenner and fellow Senior Randi Arnold who came back from the meet at Whitefish with medals.

Arnold was the story of the day as she soared 33-5 in the triple jump placing third in the event and gaining a personal record in the process.

"It was pretty nice for her to pick up third at the meet," said Head Coach Dustin Herbert who saw only them and Noxon representing the Class C schools at the bigger meet.

After placing in only one event on Tuesday, Winebrenner came back on Saturday and placed third in the 300 hurdles, second in the 110 hurdles and sixth place in the shot put, the first time he's competed at that event.

"He's just one of those kids that could be put in any event and he's going to compete," said Coach Herbert. "It just looked like an opportunity. We looked at the distances from around the state and it looked like he had an opportunity to qualify for state."

Derek Jensen from Noxon is leading Class C in the shot put and he only threw the shot put six inches further than Winebrenner's heave of 42-1 1/2 at Whitefish.

The weather hasn't been cooperating with the track season in the last two weeks. Before the track meet at Whitefish, Hot Springs was scheduled to compete at Charlo, but it was canceled due to rain and this week could be another adventure as the weather looks poor for the county meet at Noxon.

With the poor weather Coach Herbert is forced to practice indoors and with Districts looming he hopes to keep up the hard workouts until the end of this week when he'll starting easing them back, which will hopefully allow them to peak for Divisionals as it is relatively easy to place at the district level with only five teams.

The team will also be competing at Missoula for the Seeley Invitational on Saturday at Big Sky High School, the last meet before Districts.
