It was a short week for the Plains softball as they played only one game last week. In that game it was one short inning that kept them from upsetting the St. Ignatius Bulldogs playing at home.

It was a short week for the Plains softball as they played only one game last week. In that game it was one short inning that kept them from upsetting the St. Ignatius Bulldogs playing at home.

After quickly gaining a 2-0 lead on Mission, behind RBIs by Meghan Massangale and Brittany Spencer in the first inning, Plains used their pitching and defense to hold down a tough Bulldog offensive squad for three innings.

Then in the fourth inning what had been solid defense up to that point gave up five errors that led to 11 runs and put the game out of reach for Plains leading to a final score of 2-12.

"I thought we did really well. I think we can play with them. We had a bad inning, but I think we can play with this team," said Coach Larry Rivinius. Mission is one of the top four teams in the division this year.

Karlena Heward was on the mound for the Trotters and she pitched a complete game, striking out two batters and forcing a lot of groundball outs during the game by effectively mixing up her fastball with her changeup.

This week, the Trotters will once again play only one game during the week, which is a home game against Thompson Falls on Tuesday. Results of the game will be available in next week's Valley Press.
