It was a busy last week for the Plains golf team. The team played three meets in five days, which ended with the divisional meet in Missoula where the team placed eighth, missing out on the state meet next week.

The team started the three-meet stretch on Thursday in St. Regis. Although the Horsemen didn't field a team for the meet, because two of their seniors couldn't attend, the individuals on the team played extremely well with Wade Bache leading the way by scoring a Horsemen low of 89. Jeff Revier shot 93 on the day and freshman Dallas Burgess shot 95.

The boys shot good scores on that day despite the fact that the morning started out cold, but then warmed up later in the afternoon.

On Saturday, the Horsemen then traveled to Seeley Swan to make up a meet that had been postponed from Tuesday. On a chilly, overcast day with rough putting conditions the boys battled valiantly with Bache once again leading the group with a score of 95. This was followed closely by a score of 97 from Burgess and a 98 from Bryce Benson. Kyle Hermiston rounded out the team's scores with a 112.

The team then turned around to play at Canyon River for the right to play for a ticket to the state meet. The day was nice, sunny, but the greens were really fast and the tricky course with lots of sands, water and deep roughs got the better of the team with several players shooting higher scores than they're used to seeing.

Burgess led the way for the Horsemen with a score of 97. Revier was right behind him with a 98. Bache shot a 104, Benson shot a 116 and Hermiston shot a 117.

Despite missing out on the state meet, Coach Terri Kendall is very pleased with how the team played throughout the year.

"I think we did pretty good, team-wise we were right in there," says Coach Kendall. "We were up there. We were one of the better teams with the ones we played against. I'm happy with how the kids did."

The future also looks bright for Plains as the team was loaded with Freshmen this year highlighted by Burgess whose scores greatly improved by the end of the year.

Besides their underclassmen, Bache and Revier will anchor the team nicely as seniors. Until then, the team will have to remember the highlight of the year for the team, which was placing first at Thompson Falls, their only first place trophy during the year.
