Thompson Falls, MT - Rain or shine, this Saturday features the early season event of the Thompson Falls Market "Seeds, Soil & Starts" from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the west lot of the Falls Motel.

"This early event will offer area residents plant starts, seeds and soils all grown or developed area gardeners and farmers. We strongly support the development of the local food chain, which doesn't just start when the produce is ready to eat.

It starts with soil amendments, good seeds and starts that began their life cycle with in a few miles of Thompson Falls,"shares Katrina Wright, market manager and co-owner of the Falls Motel.

"This weekend's market is not just for the garden enthusiast. There is over twenty vendors signed up who are selling baked goods, handicrafts, hand painted ceramics, crocheted items and etched glass," continues market volunteer and owner of Whitepine Entertainment, Jackie Burgess." This weekend is about dusting off the winter cobwebs and getting out to see neighbors and friends while supporting our local economy."

A new addition to the event is a Painted Pot Silent Auction. Area artists have been applying their creative skills to designing and painting pots that lucky community residents will be able to win during the event. The pot auction is a fundraiser for the market, which is working toward becoming its own not-for-profit association. "There are grants and funds available to markets at a state and federal level which would help the market provide more educational opportunities, coupon programs for seniors to buy healthy produce and other programs that will make the market even more viable over time," Lehua Milliken, market volunteer and owner of Weeksville Farm.

The Thompson Falls Market is every Saturday (except Huckleberry Festival weekend) from June 26 through September 24 from 9:00am to 1:00pm. The market features special events, farm fresh eggs, baked goods, arts and crafts and live music.
