Alberton feels ready for districts

After having most of their meets cancelled due to weather issues, the students on the Alberton track team were a bit nervous to be out competing again at Seeley this past weekend. Coach Rachel Clevenger said that they weren't sure how things were going to go and if they would be able to better their times or not. But despite their worries, everything turned out all right.

"It actually didn't go too bad," Clevenger said. "A lot of the kids improved their times, which is nice because it's right before districts."

Jake Thompson took fifth in the javelin on Saturday with a throw of 140 feet. Runner Jenna Roush took two fourth place finishes in the 400 meter dash with a time of 66.56, and 800 meter dash with a time of 2:49.56. Danielle Hanley was fourth in the javelin as well with a throw of 103 feet. Overall the girls finished with a total of 12 points and the boys rounded the out with two.

The Panthers compete in district 13c so they'll be seeing the same similar six teams they've been competing against all season. Clevenger said that the other teams from the district have had a similar season and so things should stack up evenly across the field. She believes that the team is ready for the feat ahead.

"I think they're as ready as they could be," Clevenger said. "They've been working hard. We're ready."

Clevenger said that she suspects some will qualify for divisionals this weekend. She said she doesn't like to speculate ahead to state as she wants to see how districts will go. She's hoping that times will continue to improve at districts going into divisionals.

The Panthers track team will be at the Big Sky Track for districts which are scheduled for May 14-15. Clevenger said that she hopes the weather holds out, noting that it was a bit cold on Saturday when they were up at the Big Sky Track for the Seeley Invitational.
