Superior golfers finish season with divisional play
The Superior Bobcats finished their golf season on Monday in Missoula. They returned from divisional play on Monday at around 5:50 p.m. with clubs in tow. They had been looking to secure a spot to the state tournament that is scheduled for May 18-19 in Huntley. But the day didn't go quite as expected however.
Coach Seth Kuhl said that nobody will be headed to state from Superior this year. Tamara Rennick, who has been one of the Bobcat's better golfers, just missed the cut by two strokes. Kuhl had said earlier that it was her short game that saved her at the other tournaments. He would have liked to see her hitting the ball further in her game. None of the boys made it on to state and Kuhl said that the boys didn't play as well as he would have hoped.
"Usually we get to play the course as coaches, but we didn't at divisionals so I don't know if it was just the way the course was setup or if nerves got to some of the kids," Kuhl said.
Prior to heading up to divisionals, the Bobcat golfers were playing in the county. The team headed to Trestle Creek located in St. Regis on Thursday, May 6. Although there weren't enough girls from Superior to complete a team, Rennick again scored in the top ten individuals. She ended up in third with a very familiar score of 99.
On the boy's side, Kuhl said that Dan Taron played well on Thursday as well. Kuhl said that it's important to do well at home, especially on the course that you practice.
"It's always a big advantage," Kuhl said. "(Trestle) is so narrow and you learn a lot of tricks from playing it at practice."
Kuhl hopes that numbers are higher next year as he wished he could have had a girls' team play at divisionals this year as they only would have had to beat one team to secure a ticket to state. With the season over though, he said that they can't be too upset considering.
"We just got stuck back into B, so you can't be too mad," Kuhl said. "It was pretty decent weather except for couple of weeks of bad weather."
