Christofer Eriksson shattered the school record last Thursday for the pole vault at the Superior Invitational. The record, which stood at 12-6, was back from 1986. To shatter a record, one must jump at least two additional inches. The feat was no problem for Ericksson who did so to a cheering applause from the crowd. It was also no surprise that he took first in the event with a jump of 12-8.

At the meet on Thursday, the boys took second place behind fellow competitor Troy. Superior trailed by 35 points, taking second with 107. The girls claimed another victory with 169.5 points. The girls from Wallace came in second with 61 points, giving the Superior girls a sweeping victory.

Stephens also took second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.12. Stephens was third in the 400 with 55.44 behind teammate RJ Frederick who claimed second with a time of 55.40.

Superior claimed the 400 and 1,600 meter relays as well. In the discus, Spud Crabb took third with a throw of 90-10. At the javelin throw he took second with a throw of 120-4. Norris took fifth place with 104 feet.

Hayes jumped 5-10 in the high jump good enough for second place. Max Sarmento claimed fifth with a jump of 5-4. Sarmento took sixth in the long jump and Eric Steinebach was fifth with a distance of 17-9.

At the triple jump line, Hayes grabbed fifth and Steinebach took fourth. Superior boys swept up first through fifth place in the pole vault with Ericksson leading of course.

The girls were on top in the 100 meter dash. Shelby Cooper took first with 13.66, Kaitlynn Koke took second with 13.81 and Ashley Blaylock took third with 13.91. Kinzie Cooper was the star of the 800 and 1,600 meter races. She ran the 800 with a time of 2:46.8 and the 1,600 with a time of 6:15.8. In the 3,200, Koke was running against herself and finished with a time of 16:55.4.

Nicole Stroot took first in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while Cox took second in both races. Jessica Riley filled out third place in the 100 meter hurdles as well. The relays also belonged to Superior and they took both the 400 and 1,600.
