The Superior tennis girls finished out the play of their regular season this last week. They played Fort Benton at home on Friday and then traveled to the Best of the West Tournament on Saturday in Missoula.

In the first round of number one singles on Saturday, Cary Chamberlain and Kiana Cox both defeated opponents to advance onto the semifinals. In the semifinals, Cox found herself defeated, but Chamberlain easily defeated the competition, 6-3 and 6-2, a girl from St. Ignatius, moving into the championship round. However, once again, the weather proved to be an issue and the championship round was rained out.

It was a beautiful day on Friday and Coach Rick Berreth said he was hoping that the weather would hold out, but things ended up differently. The number two, number three and number four singles championships were also rained out and not held on Saturday.

In the number four singles seat, Chanel Elliot won 10-6 in the first round advancing to the semifinals. She also would have found a place in the championship round had it not been rained out as she defeated Fort Benton opponent Tabitha Truax, 6-2 and 6-4. Elliot also beat Truax in Superior on Friday.

Doubles championship matches were also rained out because of the weather. In the first round of number one doubles, Kaylee Crabb and Sarah Wuebkes were defeated and had a chance to come back around in the consolation championship, but ended up losing, 6-2 and 6-2.

Doubles team of Catie Goodpasture and Myranda Kuhl would have found themselves in the championship round. They defeated a pair from Townsend, 7-5, 4-6 and 10-8.

On Friday, at home, the Superior girls found that the visiting team from Fort Benton had a slight edge upon them. Overall, the Superior girls lost to Fort Benton, 4-3, but there were some individual and pairs victory however. Cary Chamberlain wiped out her opponent, 6-3 and 6-0. Elliot also found victory.

In doubles play, Caitlin Coleman and Kassiah O'Brien defeated their opponents from Fort Benton. They played a total of three matches to win overall with a score of 10-8 (5-7, 6-4 and 1-0).

Next up for the girls is Divisionals and Barreth said he believes that the girls should be in contention for the conference title.

"We should be in contention for the title. We've beaten everybody in the conference," Barreth said.

Divisionals will be hosted by Loyola in Missoula on Friday and Saturday, May 14-May 15.
