It was a close day of competition on Friday for the Superior girls. After completing seven events, the Bobcats were only behind Bigfork by a mere point. The Bobcats finished Friday in second place with 33 points, while Bigfork sat in first place with 34 points. Yet, on Saturday, Bigfork netted several victories and pulled away from the Bobcats and ended up winning the divisional tournament. The Superior girls finished in second place, however, with 68 points, a mere four points ahead of Darby, but 45 points away from first-place Bigfork.

Several girls contributed points to the Bobcats second place finish. Shelby Cooper ran fourth in the 100 with a time of 13.756. She also brought in a sixth place finish in the 200 with a time of 29.36. Nicole Stroot was third in the 100 meter hurdles and also placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles. She had a time of 17.24 in the 100 meter hurdles and finished the 300 hurdles in 51.23 seconds.

Once again, the Superior girls' relay teams shined in the 400 meter and 1,600 meter relays. Stroot joined Kaitlynn Koke, Ashley Blaylock and Rhandy Cox on the track to sweep up a third place finish in the 1,600. The girls ran the race in the time of 4:19.43. In the 400, Stroot, Blaylock and Koke joined Cooper and together they garnished a second place finish in the 400 meter relay. They ran the race in 51.71 seconds.

Blaylock also ran fast enough in the 400 meter dash for a third place finish. She crossed the finish line in 62.39 seconds.

At the long jump, Cooper found herself finishing fourth place with a jump of 15-3.5. Cooper also jumped a distance of 32-2 in the triple jump winning her third place. Teammate Stroot was in second place at the long jump with a distance of 16.5. Kinzie Cooper was fifth in the pole vault with a height of eight feet, which tied the school record. She also ran in the 1,600 meter dash, securing a fourth place win with a time of 5:48.83.

Koke was throwing far in the javelin. She was second with a throw of 117-10 behind a first-place finisher from Loyola who threw 131-4. Despite the second place finish, the distance was good enough to break the school record. Jessica Taylor was sixth in the high jump for Superior, clearing 4-2.

The girls are off to state this weekend, May 28-May 29. The competition is being held in Laurel.

The Superior boys finished second to last after two days of competition with 12 points. Christofer Ericksson, who broke the school record in the pole vault a couple weeks ago by clearing 12-8 at Superior's home meet, grabbed a fourth place finish at divisionals. He cleared 12-0. Teammate Matt Campbell also placed in the pole vault. Campbell was fifth with a height of 11-6.

The Superior boys relay team had a third place finish in the 1,600. With a time of 3:36.83, Bajin Smith, RJ Frederick, Campbell and Garrett Stephens took third in the event. Last week, at districts, they took third as well with a time of 3:36.68, a time slightly faster than what they did at divisionals.
