On Friday evening near the Plains Grainry a suspicious fire was intentionally set in a storage box underneath a broken window.

The page went out across the radio at about 6:41 p.m. Noah Hawthorne of the Plains Police Department, who was first on scene, extinguished the blaze.

The Plains-Paradise Rural Fire Department, Plains Police Department and Sanders County Sheriffs Office also responded to the call.

According to John Holland, the Plains-Paradise Rural Fire Chief there was no property damage sustained and no injuries occurred.

“A lot of times people who do this like to talk,” Sanders County Undersheriff Rube Wrightsman said. “They like to brag about what they’ve done or tried to do, and if people keep their ears open and hear anything about this they should let us know.”

Wrightsman added that anyone who happened to see someone at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the area between the propane tank and the grainry should contact the Sheriffs Office at 1 (406) 827-3584.

The fire is still under investigation by the Fire Marshall and Sanders County Attorney’s Office.
