Bobcats lose homecoming to Wolves
It’s wolf season in Superior.
One of the banner’s in Superior’s homecoming parade announced the new season on Friday as the short lineup of floats traveled through Superior shortly after 4 p.m.
Football players, the volleyball team and the cheerleaders rode through town just a few hours before the homecoming game against the Cut Bank Wolves.
Coach Dan Lucier said last week the Wolves were a high caliber team and it showed on Friday night as Superior ended up taking a loss 13-48.
The first quarter was a defensive battle for the Bobcats who held their own against the players from Cut Bank. After the Wolves scored their first touchdown, the Bobcats made sure to do the same. Christofer Ericksson took the ball into the end zone on a five-yard run.
It was the second quarter where the Bobcats struggled, and that might have ultimately cost them the game.
While Superior failed to score on the offensive end, they also had a tough time on the defensive end. Cut Bank took the ball to the end zone during the quarter to score 28 points. The Bobcats entered halftime behind, 7-35.
Coming out of halftime, the Bobcats defensive efforts were back on and the Wolves had a difficult time getting the ball down to the end zone. The Wolves managed to score six points in the third quarter of the second half. Offensively, the Bobcats didn’t make it past the Wolves defense to score.
In the fourth and final quarter of the game, both teams managed to make a touchdown. Adam Kay caught a 20-yard pass from Tanner Coon and slipped into the end zone for six points, but the kick failed. The Bobcats finished the nonconference game with a loss, 13-48.
During the game, Coon passed for a total of 189 yards.
Despite the loss, there was no shortage of support from the fans on Friday night as they came out dressed in red, white and blue to support their team and applauded them for their efforts.
Next up on the schedule for the Bobcats is an away game against Troy on Friday, Oct. 1.
