Glad to be an Independent
Thank God I am an independent voter. It sickens me to see what is happening to our political parties. Neither one seems to care about us, the voting public. They refuse to listen to what we have to say how we feel on the issues, and to vote the way we are asking them to.
I am more familiar with the Republican platform because of my husband’s elected position as a precinct committeeman in Plains. This nonetheless sways my voting decision, and anyone who knows me knows that I will stand my ground if I feel strongly enough about an issue.
It was a disgrace, to all Americans, what happened at the last Republican Central Committee meeting. After opening the meeting and saying the Pledge of Allegiance, Mr. Mike Hashisaki proclaimed himself the dictator of the meeting. He took the letter that Judy & Pat wrote to the Valley Press and began to belittle them, only telling half-truths and misquoting minutes of previous meetings. When our elected committeepersons (Judy & Pat) asked to speak on their behalves they were flatly told “no.” When asked why, Mike said, “because I am the Chairperson and I am running this meeting.” Wow, is this how politics go? What is really sad about all of this is that Judy & Pat replied to Mr. Gallaher’s letter in support of Mike, over their letter, but that letter has never been published, leaving the issue up in the air and denying the public the right to form their own opinion of the truth. Please I pray, as an independent, that this is not happening in our local Democratic Party also.
What was even more disheartening was the fact that several of our candidates running for election just sat there and backed Mike up. Shame on you Pat Ingraham, Jennine Robbins, and Bob Zimmerman; is this the kind of country that you want, a “dictatorship?” Do you not have the backbone to stand up to people like this? Are you so willing to let one person tell you what to say, or not to say, when to show up, or not show up for a meeting? Sorry, you are not the type of people I am going to vote for.
Take heed people, every day we lose a little more of our rights, because we sit on our big fat butts and say nothing.
It is time to scream, kick, shout and claim your freedoms back.
