St. Regis wins three over Hot Springs

The St. Regis volleyball girls played a game against Hot Springs last week. In what has been an up-and-down season for the girls, the Lady Tigers proved to a threat on Friday when they played Hot Springs at home. It was homecoming week for the girls and they had lots of enthusiasm and excitement as they stepped onto the court.

The girls found themselves playing strong against Hot Springs in the first game, but failed to finish and ended up losing 21. Yet, the girls weren’t about to give up.

In the second game, the girls battled fiercely and wound up winning another close game, 27-25. The win gave the girls more momentum and they ended up winning the next two games of the match, 25-11 and 25-17.

The game was a strong one for the St. Regis girls. The season for the girls and their game play has fluctuated greatly from game to game.

“One moment we look like we could really do something and the next were to the point of ‘are you kidding me?’ I think part of it that it’s such an emotional game,” Feasel said.

Feasel has said that the team really needs to focus on overcoming the emotional aspects of the game. She has said that they need to get stronger mentally to be able to get through those situations when they are down by a few points. Feasel said that she firmly believes they are capable of playing any team and doing well.

“We can play with anybody, but sometimes we look like the worst team in the league,” Feasel said. “We just need to become mentally stronger. We need to concentrate of floor transition and get more power on the hips. And we will. We’ll get there. I still believe we can be ready for districts.”

The girls appeared strong in Friday night’s game against Hot Springs. Feasel has noted in the past that the girls need to become more of a threat at the net and were on Friday. St. Regis has 29 kills against Hot Springs on Friday, though Hot Springs led with45 digs. Jocelyn Dockter and Sierra Slavin each had seven. Lisa Steven was once again an avid blocker for the Lady Tigers. She had two of St. Regis’ three blocks.  Leandra Baldwin had seven digs for St. Regis and Juliana Spencer set 20 of 21 assists for the team. St. Regis had 20 aces for the night, five of those belonging to Dockter.

With five more games left before districts, Feasel has said that she is hoping the team can come together and show up to play at districts. Although the season has been one of wins and losses, sights have been set on districts from the beginning.

 “Hopefully, we’ll be sharp,” Feasel said.

This week, the Lady Tigers will play Charlo on Oct. 7 at home. On Friday, the team will celebrate its seniors with senior-parent night. The girls will also play Noxon on Friday.
