Billy Hill’s most recent campaign brochure states, “Billy has a proven record of accomplishment as a military noncommissioned officer, Korea and Vietnam...” Review of Billy Hill campaign material and interviews published in local newspapers throughout his numerous campaigns for sheriff show a number of references to his tour of duty in Korea.
I was unable to find any comment by Mr. Hill or anybody else saying he is a Vietnam veteran until now. It used to be that such claims could be easily checked if the veteran had registered the discharge document, which reflects military service, the DD214, at their local courthouse.
Prior to identity theft issues, this document, once registered, was considered a public record and could be seen by anyone requesting to see it. That’s not the case now. Therefore, I am challenging Mr. Hill to voluntarily make his DD214 available to the public and prove his claim that he is a Vietnam veteran. He can black out his social security number and scan the form onto his MySpace page, place it on the website that Roger Wicke maintains for him, and/or, he can show it to me.
I would be happy to validate for the residents of this county whether or not Mr. Hill is indeed the Vietnam veteran he is now claiming to be. If he shows me his DD214, I’ll show him mine. Fair’s fair.
