Martha Eileen Schoening

Martha Eileen Schoening passed away at her home in Deer Park, WA on Oct. 6, 2010. She was 61 years old and had been fighting a battle with leukemia since being diagnosed in August. Her son, Ed, sisters Georgia and Frankie, and her very special dog, Bear, were with her.

Martha was born on Feb. 17, 1949, the first child of Frank and Margaret York. She attended elementary and high school in Superior, MT., graduating top in her class in 1967. She also attended two years of college at MSU in Bozeman. On Aug. 20, 1969, she married her “cowboy,” Larry Schoening, and together they had one child, Edward Dallas.

Martha worked at many jobs during her lifetime. She was a certified public accountant and owned the Lozeau Creek Tax Service in Superior for many years. She also worked as a pack trip cook for the Busted Ass Ranchand packed into the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area and at the 320 Ranch in Bozeman. She was a cook grocery store clerk, bartender, and a grandma to her two grandkids.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, and her father, Frank York.

Survivors include her son Ed, his wife Linda and her grandchildren. She was so proud of Tyler and Sarah of Deer Park, WA. Martha is also survived by her mother, Margaret York, her sisters Georgia Miles and Frankie Kelley of Superior and Patty Nakasone of Colorado, and her brother Duncan York of Massachusetts, as well as many nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral at Martha’s request. Cremation has taken place.
