Savage Heat loses to Noxon, take St. Regis
The Hot Springs Savage Heat fell to Noxon, 3-1, on the road on Thursday, before redeeming themselves with a 3-0 sweep of St. Regis on Friday during Senior Night.
At Noxon, the Red Devils cracked into the win column for the first time this season with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18 District 10-C win over the visiting Savage Heat.
“They played well the first three games,” Savage Heat head coach Alisha Pablo said. “Volleyball is just a total game of momentum, and I don’t know. We come off of a high and it just seems that we go to a low, and then we go to a high and I don’t really know what happened.”
Alex Green tallied eight kills to lead the Savage Heat. Alyssa Foster 20 digs Lindsey Sami 10 assits, Alyssa Foster and Hannah Retllick had five aces a piece.
Cara Stettler had the big night with 15 kills and 10 aces to lead Noxon (1-7, 1-10).
On Friday, in the Savage Heat’s final conference game of the season, they came out on top, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 over the visiting Tigers.
Before play began, Hot Springs seniors Salmi and Gina Morigeau were honored before an excited home crowd. Morigeau, who was hit by a car while crossing the street earlier this season, was in attendance although she did not play.
“It was great. It was our homecoming of course, so the girls were hyped up,” Pablo said. “Gina was there that’s the first time we’ve seen her since the accident so that was kind of emotional for us too.”
Erin Schmidbauer floored nine kills, Lindsey Salmi had 12 assists and Shanny King contributed five digs and four aces For Hot Springs.
“I think that was the game that things finally clicked,” Pablo said. “We just played outstanding. We lost to St. Regis earlier in the season, so that was a good confidence booster for them.”
Rolisha Rhodes led St. Regis with nine kills.
Next week, Pablo plans to take advantage of her two non-conference matchups by tweaking her alignment, from a 5-1 to a 6-2.
“We’re going to try a setter all around,” she explained. “If it works we’ll stick with it for districts, if it doesn’t we’re going to go back to what we had originally been working on. We’ll see.”
Pablo likes her team’s chances in the district tournament coming up on the weekend of Oct. 29 and 30.
“We’re in the thick of things,” she said. “I’m pretty proud of them. They played very well against Arlee and Charlo the second time that we met them. They beat Noxon once, and they beat St. Regis once.
Hot Springs will go on the road next week to face Seeley Swan on Friday at 4:00 and Granite at 5:30 on Saturday.
