Chamber to hold forums

| September 24, 2010 1:28 PM

The Mineral County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring six “Meet the Candidates” forums for Mineral County and State House District 14 candidates during the month of October. The events will be held at the St. Regis Community Center Oct. 5 and 21; Alberton School Oct. 7 and 12; and the Superior High School Multipurpose Room Oct. 18 and 19.

With every county office being contested in 2010, the Chamber organized the candidates into two groups to give voters in all areas of the county enough time to listen to—and speak with—all of the candidates. One group includes candidates for Sheriff, County Attorney, and Justice of the Peace. One group includes state representative, county commissioner, county treasurer, and county clerk and recorder.

The candidates (listed alphabetically by first name) for sheriff include Charlie Everson (Independent), Ernie Ornelas (R), and Tim Vulles (D). Candidates for county attorney include incumbent M. Shaun Donovan (D) and Marcia Boris (R). Candidates for non-partisan justice of the peace include Muriah Alexander and incumbent Wanda James. This group will appear Oct. 5 at the St. Regis Community Center, Oct. 7 at the Alberton School, and Oct. 18 at the Superior High School.

Candidates for state representative are incumbent Gordon Hendrick (R) and Judy Stang (D). Candidates for East end county commissioner include Norm Brovold (D) and Roman Zylawy (R). Candidates for county treasurer include Anna Getz (D) and Mary Yarnall (R). Candidates for county clerk and recorder are Jessica Connolly (D) and Staci Hayes (R). This group will appear Oct. 12 at the Alberton School, Oct. 19 at the Superior High School Multipurpose Room, and Oct. 21 at the St. Regis Community Center.

Doors will open at 6:30 pm if you’d like to come early and visit with the candidates, with the forums promptly starting at 7 and ending at approximately 9:30 pm. All but one question will come from the audience. Everyone is encouraged to come out, ask questions, and meet your candidates.
