Dustin Frank Black

| September 30, 2010 2:44 PM

Dustin Frank Black was born in Bismarck, North Dakota in 1974 to Debbie and Denver Black. He was the oldest of five children. He went to school in North Dakota and graduated from Flasher High School in 1993. After high school he moved to Plains and worked for Thompson River Lumber. He then moved back to North Dakota to work on his uncle Ron and grandparent’s ranch.

In 1999, he moved back to Plains where he started working for RTI Fabrication. Dustin was a cowboy in his heart. He loved being on the farm in North Dakota, riding his horse and taking care of the cows. When he came back to Plains, he decided that was where he wanted to stay. He loved the community and the people in it.  He was the kind of guy who had to be doing something all the time. He loved to be shooting the breeze with his friends, telling tall tales about hunting and fishing and riding horses.

His first love was his family. In 2002, his beautiful daughter Dacia was born. Dustin married his wife Monica in August 2005. They had two sons, Brody and Denny. Dustin also had a stepdaughter, Shyann, who lived in the home. Dustin was an outdoors person. He loved rounding up cows on the Cross Ranch and anywhere else that they would let him come and help. He loved being on his horse. His children were little cowboys and cowgirl, wanting to be just like dad. Dustin spent hours on horseback with his children. He loved to hunt elk and deer and shot his first bear the day he was killed.  He was thrilled. Dustin not only provided for his family, but also helped his mother, Debbie, with anything she needed. He was the kind of person that if you needed help he was there to provide it. He had a heart of Gold.

Dustin was killed early Saturday morning, Sept. 25 along with his brother Denny, in a tragic car accident. He is survived by his wife Monica and their four children, Shyann, Dacia, Brody and Denny, his mother Debbie Kovar, his father Denver Black, his sister Devin (Jeremiah) Johnson and their four children, Lexi, Maddy, Miah and Jeffrey, his brother Dezariah Black, little sister Dominique Kovar, his sister-in-law Lisa Black (Denny) and their two children, Riley and Abigail, his grandparents, and multiple loving aunts and uncles. He will be greatly missed by so many. Love you and miss you so much, Dustin!

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to First Security Bank in Plains, to the Dustin Black Memorial Account No. 9116632.  The memorial service will be held for both Dustin and Denny Black at the Plains High School Gymnasium at 1 p.m. on Wed, Sept. 29, 2010. There will be a reception afterwards at the pavillion at the fair grounds.  Please come and help Lisa and I celebrate the lives of Dustin and Denny.
