Red Devil track ruined by rain

The Noxon Red Devils will wait two weeks between meets after the time trials in Libby were cancelled last Saturday.

Bad weather conditions were enough to convince officials that it was too dangerous to compete as the meet was called off for the safety of the athletes competing.

When the weather finally cooperates, Noxon will hope to pick things up from where they left off last year as they sent three athletes to state.

Senior thrower Cody Jensen spearheads the group, as he returns for his final campaign with hopes of repeating as shot put champion. Fellow senior Moore qualified in the javelin and junior Banks Stocking in the triple jump.

Head coach Kelly Moore also feels that his 4 x 100-meter relay team composed of sophomores (Neal Jopling, Brandon Piazzola, Taylor Tasker and Brett Wilson) will be on that state qualifying list if they work hard over the next few years.

Also looking impressive in the early going, is Caleb Fickus, Noxon’s lone freshman. Fickus will sprint, long jump and potentially compete in the 800-meters as well.

For the girls, junior Jordyn Wilkinson and sophomore Casey Chenowith have shown promise in the throwing events. Sophomores Shay Lloyd and Brooke Smithborne will look to shake things up in the two mile and 200 and 400-meters respectively.

“I like track because you can gauge it individually. You’re able to look at personal bests,” head coach Kelly Moore said. “Yeah, you can look at the overall scores, but you can also look at individuals and see their improvement meet by meet. My goal is that these kids keep getting in better shape and do better as they go along.”

Noxon will hope to succeed both collectively and individually as they compete this Thursday in Hot Springs.
