Superior girls win Kootenai Invitational

The Superior girls track team took their first win on the season at the Kootenai Invitational, which was held April 9 in Kootenai, Idaho. They walked off the track with the crown and never looked back.

Competing strongly, the girls nabbed a total of 110 points to beat the second place team, from Kellogg, by a mere ten.

In the 400 meter dash, Ashley Blaylock gave the team a win with a time of 67.25 seconds. Long distance runner Kinzie Cooper gave the girls a win in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:41.0. She also took third in the 1,600 and second in the triple jump.

Nicole Stroot jumped 15-9 in the long jump for a win. She also took home a third in the 100 hurdles and was fourth in the 300 hurdles. The 400 and 1,600 meter relay teams also won.

Kaitlyn Koke was third in the 100 for the Bobcats and Rhandy Cox grabbed a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.

Cox also took second in the triple jump. Blaylock was second in the 200 meter dash as well.

The boys took ninth at the met with 6.5 points.

Before traveling to Kootenai on Saturday, Superior track competed at the Florence Invitation on April 7. The girls came in ninth place with 29 points in a field of 16 teams. The boys grabbed 11th place.

For the girls, Koke took sixth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.44 seconds. Blaylock nabbed a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with 64.4 seconds.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Stroot took fifth place with 17.46 seconds. She also competed in the 300 meter hurdles and took home a third place finish with a time of 52.62 seconds.

Superior’s 400 meter relay team won with a time of 54.76 seconds.

In the field events, Koke competed in the javelin throw and threw good enough for sixth place, 105-0.

Stroot took third in the long jump with a jump of 16-0.25 feet. Koke took fifth in the triple jump and

Cooper grabbed sixth place finish in the pole vault, jumping over the bar at 7-6.

For the boys, Donavan Linear took a sixth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 39-10.5. Christofer Ericksson, who broke the school record in the pole vault last year, is back again and took home a second place finish at Florence. He cleared 11-6.
