The Superior tennis girls continued to win last week. They battled against Loyola Sacred Heart on Thursday and faced off with Darby on Saturday.

Against Loyola, the doubles team of Kaylee Crabb and Sarah Wuebkes found themselves up against some formidable opponent. They fought for more than two hours against the team of Brooke Sauro and Rebecca Nielsen.

“It was a long, long match,” said Coach Rick Berreth.

The first game went the Loyola girls, 7-5. Wuebkes and Crabb won the second game, 4-6. They lost the third game, 6-4.

“They (Loyola) moved their kids around and (Wuebkes and Crabb) had to play Darby’s two best players,” said Berreth. “We fought a good battle. We came up a bit short in the end.”

Berreth said that they came from behind a couple of times and made it interesting.

“The sets were real close,” he said. “They have a different game and we’re hitting the ball real hard and it took some adjustment on our part.”

Alychia Scofield and Channel Elliot also were defeated in doubles play. They lost 7-5 and 7-6.

Doubles team of Myranda Kuhl and Hillary Stevens defeated their opponents. They won the first game, 6-3, and the second game, 6-1.

All four of the girls who play singles for Superior found victory against their opponents. Cary Chamberlain went 6-0 in her first game to win. She won the second game 6-3.

Emma Wooldrige, who joined the team from Alberton this year, defeated her opponent without much trouble. She won the first game, 6-3, and the second, 6-0.

Michele Reinelt narrowly won her first game, 6-4, but played a strong second and won, 6-0.

Kiana Cox won her game by default. Superior beat Loyola, 5-2.

Against Darby, the Superior girls were on fire again. The team beat Darby, 7-0, but it was a “long, cold day.”

Chamberlain had little trouble in putting away her opponent on the court. She won the first game, 6-2, and the second game, 6-1. Wooldrige also went 6-1 and 6-2 against her opponent, winning the matchup. Reinelt beat her opponent 6-1 in both games and Cox grabbed a victory as well, winning 6-3 and 7-6.

“They’re all undefeated for the season so far,” Berreth said. “They are real experienced.”

Crabb and Wuebkes won against their opponents after losing on Thursday. They bounced back strong against Darby winning the first game, 6-2. Stevens and Kuhl also won. Elliot and Scofield won their match by default.

This week, the girls have two scheduled competitions. They will play Mission on April 19. They will be at home on April 21 and play Eureka, a team they beat back on April 9.
