Horsemen Senior Wade Bache watches his put all the way into the cup last Saturday. Bache shot a 90 which tied him for the eighth lowest individual score.

Six golf teams converged in Plains last Saturday for the Plains Invitational golf tournament.

Although it was hardly a picture perfect day, players competed despite the mediocre conditions as light, scattered showers and a steady wind affected players scores.

Loyola Sacred Heart sat atop the leader board for the second straight weekend shooting a tournament low 314. Bigfork, 352, Thompson Falls, 364, Eureka, 397, Plains, 403, and Superior, 462, all played from behind.

Tom Swanson scored a 75 to lead the boys. Austin Dauenhauer, 77, Justin Galiher, 81, and Alex Carlson, 90 also placed in the top ten for the Rams. They finished second, tied for fourth and tied for eighth respectively.

For the third-place Blue Hawks, Garrett Reinschmidt led the way with an 81, and tying for the fourth lowest individual score. A.J. Pavlik shot an 85, good enough for seventh best. Ross Dalby and Andrew Cox shot 99s and Dalton Groshong a 111.

“All in all I guess we faired pretty decent,” Blue Hawk coach Lance Pavlik said. He noted that although Reinscmidt and Pavlik had played in Plains before, it was the first time for the rest of his team.

“When I talked to them after the round they said they could have chipped and putted a little better, but that’s kind of par for the course as it goes for beginners,” he said.

Wade Bache led the Horsemen with an eighth-best, 90. Jeff Revier turned in his scorecard with a 94, Keith Woodward 109 and Carson Lilja 110. Freshman Colton VonHeeder was forced to withdraw after nine holed due to a deeply bruised hand.

Plains coach Teri Kendall was happy with how her younger players performed given the amount of time they have been golfing, but knows her veteran players aren’t quite playing up to their potential.

The Horsemen were missing their number one player, sophomore Dallas Burgess.

Both teams will be competing at the Thompson Falls Invitational next Thursday.

Pavlik said he expects Loyolla to have another strong performance and feels the rest of the field will be playing for second place. He thinks his team has a good shot to finish ahead of Bigfork, as they have been back and forth for the last several tournaments.

Pavlik noted that the course in Thompson is a difficult one. Narrow fairways and sloped greens make it hard for most to maintain a low score.
