Lady Tigers struggle

Once again, the St. Regis girls were taking on teams with extra players on the bench while they had no one to sub to get the players on the court a break. Juliana Spencer, Brogan Teeters, Shelby Berg, Gabby Moeller and Arianna Jones were the only players to suit up for the Lady Tigers.

They started the week out with a game against the Lincoln Lynx on Friday who they turned around to play again on Tuesday.

Last week, though, the girls handled the Lynx well in the first and third quarters, struggling in the second and final frame of the game.

Lincoln struggled to shake the girls in the first quarter and they were only ahead by four. But the Tigers couldn’t keep up in the second and were outscored 12-5.

“We had an abundance of turnovers,” said Coach Janelle Pruitt. “And then in the fourth, we were close to getting into foul trouble. We had two girls with four fouls and they play differently when they’re close to foul trouble like that. They aren’t quite as aggressive.”

Despite losing, Pruitt felt that the girls did a really great job. She said that all five players managed to stay on the court.

Spencer led with 11 points, Moeller scored nine, Jones added seven and Berg scored one.

Hot Springs was next. And this time, the girls struggled in the first and third quarters of the game. The team also ended up with three players on the court in the final frame when two fouled out. They lost 32-50 to Hot Springs.

“It was a hard game for them and it was quietest gym. I think that there was some intensity lacking,” Pruitt said.

The team managed some outstanding stats. They had 40 team rebounds and 13 steals.

“There were some good things happening, but we just weren’t able to put a full game together,” Pruitt said. “We did do better with our turnovers.”

This week, the girls played Lincoln on Tuesday and will battle Noxon. Pruitt said that there will be some challenges against Lincoln when they play them away. She said that the gym will be smaller and harder to play in.

“And on top of that, there’s a two and a half hour bus ride,” she noted. “But hopefully, we will be able to be there right there with them.”

Noxon is going to be hard for the team and it was a rough loss when they played them earlier in the season.

“Hopefully, they just look to each other and don’t get frustrated,” Pruitt said. “It was a hard game last time for us.”
